Many different factors impact how much a truck can tow and one of them is the engine. Along with that, the drivetrain, axle ratio, axle type, equipment, and other related components effect the towing capacity.
Towing Specs
When equipped with the available 7.3L V8 engine, a 4x2 drivetrain, a 4.3 axle ratio, and a dual rear wheel axle, the Ford F-350 can tow up to 21,000 pounds with the right configuration.
Similarly, the available 6.7L Power Stroke® V8 Turbo Diesel with either a 4x2 or a 4x4 drivetrain, a 4.0 axle ratio, and dual rear wheel axle can tow up to 21,200 pounds with certain configurations.
With the standard 6.2L Flex Fuel V8 engine, you can tow a maximum of 16,700 pounds with a 4.3 axle ratio, 10-speed transmission, dual rear wheel axle, a 4x4 drivetrain, and other proper equipment.
