Explorer: Beyond Basic
The base trim of the 2022 Ford Explorer is anything but basic. It offers cloth seating for up to seven passengers to fit comfortably in its 152.7 cubic feet of passenger volume. Along with its roomy and adaptable interior, the Explorer also features standard Ford Co-Pilot360™ Technology, including:
- Lane Keeping System with Lane-Keeping Assist, Lane-Keeping Alert, and Driver Alert, which work together to help you stay safely within your lane.
- Rear View Camera with Washer provides a reliable perspective on the area behind your Ford Explorer, so you can back up with confidence.
- AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ improves traction across difficult surfaces, like ice, gravel, and rain.
Explorer XLT: Moving Up
In the 2022 Ford Explorer XLT, you’ll have everything that comes in the Ford Explorer trim, including the efficient 2.3L EcoBoost® engine. However, you’ll also get some extra perks, like cozy heated front-row seats and a 10-way power driver’s seat that helps you find your precise sweet spot.
Explorer ST-Line: Luxury on the Move
In the 2022 Explorer ST-Line, you’ll experience a taste of luxury when taking a seat, as this trim comes with ActiveX Seat Material with Miko® inserts and highly stylized red stitching. Furthermore, you and your copilot will be able to brave the cold with the standard heated front-row seats.
This level also introduces the 12-speaker B&O® Sound System by Bang & Olufsen®, which gives you a front-row seat to an immersive listening experience you can engage in whether driving the morning commute or taking the lazy way home. This feature appears a few times throughout the trim levels, but here is its origin point.
Explorer Timberline: Ready for the Off-Roads
In the 2022 Explorer Timberline, you’ll find a trim that’s designed to be taken out to the roads less traveled. In fact, it’s so dedicated to that ideal, a specific Off-Road Ready feature comes standard on this trim. This umbrella term for multiple features includes steel skid plates on the front, rear, and underbody that provide an extra amount of protection from challenging terrain, and the 3.58 TORSEN® Limited-Slip Rear differential offers additional capability while off-road. Also included is Trailer Sway Control, which ensures crosswinds or high-velocity driving don’t cause your trailer to become hazardous.
The Timberline also offers more advanced tech than just the previously mentioned features. There’s Hill Descent Control™, which helps you safely navigate when driving down from hills or other elevated terrain. Also here is the formal introduction of the Terrain Management System™, which provides better control while driving over difficult terrain by selecting a drive mode best suited for it. These modes include the following: Normal, Trail, Deep Snow/Sand, Slippery, Sport, Tow/Haul, and Eco mode.
Explorer Limited: Tech-Savvy
Once you get to the 2022 Ford Explorer Limited trim, it’s all about technology and infotainment. At this level, the immersive 12-speaker B&O™ Sound system by Bang & Olufsen® once again becomes available, bringing your soundtrack to life. The SYNC® with Voice-Activated Navigation System makes it easy to travel efficiently from Point A to Point B, thanks to:
- Turn-by-turn directions
- Multiple map views
- Personalized traffic alerts
When it comes to the cabin, the Explorer Limited also takes it up a few notches with second-row heated captain’s seats and leather seating surfaces with micro-perforation and accent stitching.
Explorer ST: Ready to Perform
The ST trim offers special performance features that prepare you to seize the open road with confidence. It has a 3.0L EcoBoost® engine under the hood as well as the reappearance of the Terrain Management System™ with Selectable Drive Modes that let you tailor each ride to match your mood and the road you’re tackling.
Furthermore, the Explorer ST features the available Intelligent 4WD that continually adjusts its performance to meet the demands of the road as you drive. It makes every drive an adventure as you’ll always be prepared for the next big challenge.
Explorer King Ranch: Fit for a King
The Explorer King Ranch comes kitted out with the full spread of the Ford Co-Pilot360™ Technology suite. Alongside traditional standards like the Rear View Camera with Washer, AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™, and the Lane-Keeping System, the King Ranch features the Forward Sensing System and SYNC® with Voice-Activated Navigation System.
These features are going to help keep your driving experience in the King Ranch as safe as it comes. And while you’re behind the wheel, you’ll be able to experience the luxury of over 85 square feet of Mesa Del Rio leather with lasso-perforated inserts on all rows. Each seat also features a handstitched King Ranch logo so your passengers know when they go traveling with you, they’re riding with the King.
Explorer Platinum: The Pinnacle
In this trim level, the high-quality materials and premium appointments fill the cabin, such as distinct Tri-Diamond perforated leather seating surfaces with accent stitching. On this trim and the ST, you’ll also find a crystal-clear 12.3-inch digital cluster with 3D animated graphics, plus the following:
- Wireless charging pad for convenient cord-free charging
- Active Park Assist 2.0 system that parks like a pro, so you don’t have to
- Forward Sensing System keeps you informed about anything in your path
