Mountain Spirit Habitat for Humanity

Looking for ways to give back to your Park County community? If so, then you may want to consider volunteering with Mountain Spirit Habitat for Humanity. Whether or not you have construction or retail experience, there are plenty of ways to contribute to their mission.

On this page, you can learn about the history of Habitat for Humanity as well as discover more about how Mountain Spirit Habitat for Humanity is uplifting families in the area.

A Brief History of Mountain Spirit Habitat for Humanity

Mountain Spirit is part of Habitat for Humanity, which began in 1976. It’s a nonprofit Christian housing ministry founded on the belief that “every man, woman and child should have a simple, decent, affordable place to live in dignity and safety.”

Though they base their mission on religious principles, they provide housing for people and welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. Along with that, they do not try to convert anyone they serve or work with to Christianity.

With the support of U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn, along with many others, Habitat for Humanity now serves 1,400 communities across the country as well as in approximately 70 nations worldwide. To date, they’ve helped provide decent housing to 9.8 million people and counting.

What Does Mountain Spirit Habitat for Humanity Do?

Mountain Spirit Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to ending substandard housing in Park County. They offer a home-ownership program to qualifying families. Each home is sold to a qualifying family who commits to work on the house, make a down payment on it, and then make a monthly mortgage payment.

The houses built by Mountain Spirit Habitat for Humanity remain affordable because they’re sold with no-interest loans and are built entirely by volunteers. Since Mountain Spirit Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization, all the money and resources they receive go toward their home-building projects.

Visit the Mountain Spirit ReStore & Shop On Bent

In addition to their housing initiatives, Mountain Spirit Habitat for Humanity also has a ReStore where you can purchase and donate items. The types of items they accept include gently used construction, remodeling, and decorating supplies as well as furniture.

If you have larger pieces of furniture you want to donate, also known as ReSell, Mountain Spirit Habitat for Humanity will pick them up! For clothing, kitchen supplies, toys, and smaller items, head over to the Shop On Bent thrift store.
