Local Spotlight: Homesteader Museum

Residents and visitors to the Big Horn Basin have a real resource when it comes to appreciating and learning about its fascinating history. Folks who call Powell, Sheridan, Riverton, Lander, Cody, Casper, and Rock Springs, Wyoming; as well as Scottsbluff, Nebraska, home, are welcome to take advantage of everything the Homesteader Museum has to offer. To help you get started, we’ve drawn up the following introduction to this enthralling destination. 

Exhibits

Aside from the traveling exhibits that are presented regularly throughout the year, the Museum showcases various photographs and artifacts that provide visitors with a glimpse into the domestic culture of the early 20th century American West. Here are some of the collections you’ll have the opportunity to check out:

• Blacksmith & Hand Tools
• Irrigation & Farming Equipment
• Oral Histories/Archives
• Fossils, Rocks, & Minerals
• Kitchen & Domestic Life

The following permanent exhibits are also on display:

• CB&Q Burlington Northern Caboose - With this exhibit, you’ll have the opportunity to climb aboard an actual train caboose that used to ride the rails!
• The Bever Homestead house - Walk through this original homestead house that was built in 1913 and was owned by O.E. and Ruby Bever.
