The Beginnings of Old Trail Town

Bob Edgar, the founder of Old Trail Town, nurtured a life-long affinity for history and archaeology, which led him to roam the Big Horn Basin region of Wyoming.

As Bob traveled, he noticed a multitude of historical sites and artifacts were quickly vanishing from the land he loved. This inspired Bob to act, which ultimately led to the formation of Old Trail Town, a preservation of the Old West.

Recreating the Wild West

Bob, with the help of friends and fellow history buffs, meticulously disassembled, relocated, and eventually put back together every structure in Old Trail Town--outfitting many with genuine period furnishings.

All the buildings hail from remote sites uncovered throughout Wyoming and Montana. Guests can also visit the grave sites of numerous historical figures from the West.

Old Trail Town Attractions

Some of the most notable attractions in Old Trail Town include a saloon where the infamous outlaw Butch Cassidy and his “Hole-in-the-Wall Gang” frequently attended.

Additionally, Old Trail Town is home to a set of cabins that housed both Cassidy and his partner, known as the Sundance Kid.

Other sites include various homestead cabins with furnishings that depict life on the western frontier, multiple blacksmith shops, a recovered post office, and much more.

In the Museum of the Old West, visitors can also peruse a collection of artifacts, including prehistoric tools, Native American clothing, and even a hearse from the late 1800s!
