1. Why are you selling the car? If you’re working with a private seller, this question can be useful to determine whether or not the vehicle has a lot of issues and simply isn’t worth your time.
2. Has it been in any accidents? While an affirmative answer might not deter you from purchasing, you’ll want to make sure the damages were taken care of properly and won’t be something you’ll have to worry about in the future.
3. How well has the car been maintained? Do your best to find out if the car has received the necessary routine maintenance and is completely up to date. You’ll also to want to know if the work was performed by a certified technician or an independent mechanic.
4. May I see the service records? This provides proof that the vehicle has been maintained regularly.  
5. Are any of the car’s features no longer working? This is another one that’s not necessarily a deal breaker. For instance, if the vehicle is a bit older, having a feature that doesn’t operate the way it did when it was new may come as no surprise. It’s just good to know what that is to be sure it’s not something important.     
6. What’s the history of ownership? You’ll want this information to be as detailed as possible. In a perfect world, the seller would be the sole owner. The next best scenario is that there haven’t been many owners and the seller has had the car for a long time.   
7. May I have the car inspected by a mechanic of my choosing? There should be no hesitation on the part of the seller when you ask this question. If there is, it may be that they haven’t been entirely honest when answering one or more of these questions. Any seller who’s been truthful shouldn’t have any issue with your taking the vehicle to a service center you trust.
