History of WWA

The goal of the Wyoming Wilderness Association is to protect Wyoming public wildlands. A non-profit conservation group, WWA began in 1979 as activists came together with the intention of passing the Wyoming Wilderness Act. At this time, the volunteer-based group started mobilizing communities across Wyoming to push for the passage of the act in 1984.

Thanks to grassroots efforts and organizing, the act passed, resulting in the protection of 1.1 million acres of wild lands. Later, in 1994, the nonprofit started up again and was incorporated with the state to give a voice to local residents dedicated to protecting public areas. Today, the Wyoming Wilderness Association has 4,500 members and advocates.
