2022 Ford Escape vs Nissan Rogue

2021 Ford Escape

Have you been searching for an SUV with room for the whole family—one that’s reliable, efficient, and high-tech? If so, then the Ford Escape and the Nissan Rogue have likely caught your eye. However, you may be wondering, which one has more of what you want? That’s where our team at Fremont Motor Companies comes in.

We're here to help you find the SUV that best fits your needs, so we’ve put both models head-to-head in this 2022 Ford Escape vs. Nissan Rogue comparison. Drivers in Scottsbluff, NE; and Sheridan, Riverton, Lander, and Cody, WY, can continue reading below to find out just how these two models match up!

Efficiency & Performance Around Every Curve

2021 Ford Escape Engine Specs

One of the first places to look when choosing your next SUV is under the hood. In the Ford Escape, you’ll find an impressive lineup of three powerful yet efficient engines.
  • 1.5L EcoBoost® engine – 181 horsepower, 190 lb-ft of torque
  • 2.5L EcoBoost® engine – 250 horsepower, 280 lb-ft of torque
  • 2.5L IVCT Atkinson Cycle I-4 hybrid engine – 200 total system horsepower
In addition to offering two gas engines and a hybrid powertrain, the Ford Escape also offers a plug-in hybrid that delivers 221 total system horsepower and an EPA-estimated 105 combined MPGe. Meanwhile, the Nissan Rogue offers only one gas-powered engine option: a 201-horsepower 1.5L DOHC 12-valve VC-Turbo 3-cylinder engine.

While they differ when it comes to engine choices, both models come with their own form of available All-Wheel Drive (AWD) to help keep your ride stable on the road. With the Escape’s AWD Disconnect and the Rogue’s Intelligent AWD, you can seamlessly switch to just front-wheel drive when the system detects AWD isn’t necessary.

Both the Escape and the Rogue also feature five selectable drive modes, with both vehicles featuring Sport and Eco modes. Additional modes on the Escape include Normal, Slippery, and Deep Snow/Sand, while the Rogue features Off-Road, Snow, and Auto modes.

Tow More Fun on Family Vacations

Ford Escape Towing PowerBoth the Ford Escape and the Nissan Rogue provide ample space to store luggage, beach or camping gear, or just your everyday items like groceries. To help you make the most out of your available cargo space, both vehicles feature 60/40 split fold-down seats to configure your SUV’s interior space however you like!

When it comes to external cargo, however, the Ford Escape comes out ahead. When properly equipped with the available 250-horsepower 2.0L EcoBoost® engine and the optional Class II Trailer Tow Package, the 2022 Ford Escape can tow up to 3,500 pounds. That’s enough to bring along a snowmobile, jet skis, or a lightweight travel trailer on your next adventure!

Even the hybrid and plug-in hybrid configurations on the Escape can tow up to 1,500 pounds. Meanwhile, the Nissan Rogue features a towing capacity of only up to 1,350 pounds when properly equipped. Drivers may find this more limiting when planning a road trip.

Traveling in Comfort

When it comes to passenger space, both the 2022 Ford Escape and the Nissan Rogue feature comfortable seating for up to five passengers. Both models provide many ways to find your ideal comfort while driving, including available heated seats and multi-zone climate control systems. Recalling your favorite settings on each model is easy with the available driver’s seat and mirrors with memory.

To make accessing and storing your cargo easier—even with full hands—both models feature hands-free liftgates. Also available on the Ford Escape is a Panoramic Vista Roof®, which helps give your cabin an even larger, airier feel. A similar Dual Panel Panoramic Moonroof is also available on the Nissan Rogue.

One feature you won’t find on the Rogue, however, is the Ford Escape’s second-row sliding seats. Need a little extra legroom for a passenger in the back? Or maybe just a bit more cargo space? Either way, you can easily adjust the second row to accommodate.

Staying Connected on the Road

When you’re on the road, you want to make sure you’re still in the loop. Doing so is made easy on the 2022 Ford Escape and the Nissan Rogue thanks to a number of standard and available infotainment features. Some of them that can be found with both models include:

  • Apple CarPlay®
  • Android Auto
  • Wi-Fi® hotspot capabilities
  • Bluetooth® connectivity

Both models feature easy-to-use touchscreens to control these features and more. You’ll also find premium sound systems available on both SUVs. The Escape features a B&O® Sound System by Bang & Olufsen®, while the Rogue makes use of a Bose Premium Audio System.

Safety When Driving & Convenience When Parking

Ford Escape Safety

When picking out your next family vehicle, safety and convenience likely sit high on your list of priorities. Luckily, each model offers plenty of both. In the 2022 Ford Escape, you’ll find an array of standard Ford Co-Pilot360 Technology features, such as:
  • Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Lane-Keeping System
  • BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Auto High-Beam Headlamps
  • Rear View Camera
In comparison, the 2022 Nissan Rogue comes with similar standard safety features to these. One convenience feature you’ll only find offered by the Ford Escape, however, is the available Active Park Assist 2.0 system. It helps you park with confidence!
Simply come to a full stop, shift into Neutral gear, and hold down the Active Park Assist 2.0 button. Then, sit back and watch while this intelligent system handles the rest. Unfortunately, if this sounds appealing, you won’t find a comparable feature in the Nissan Rogue.

Last Call: Ford Escape or Nissan Rogue?

When it comes to fueling your everyday fun, the 2022 Ford Escape offers a more efficient engine lineup, better hauling options, and more dynamic safety features than the Nissan Rogue.
