Check your change, grab a penny and you are on your way to find out of your vehicle is ready for new tires. When you are considering driving most likely in normal driving conditions, insert the penny with Lincoln’s head down the tread grooves. Repeat it on several locations of the same tire. When “Lincoln’s head” appears to be covered fully and all the time, then you’ll have around 2/32″ tread wear left. Depending on the State Law’s a tire is being considered “worn out” if your tread is less than 2/32″.
For more extreme weather conditions as we can find easily here in Wyoming and/or Nebraska during winter times, simply take your penny, flip it around so the “Lincoln Memorial” is facing you and turn it on its head – upside down.
Now when the tire tread is covering the roof top of the “Lincoln Memorial”, then you’ll know that the tire got at least 6/32″ tread wear left. In case you’ll see it does not, then we urge you to get new tires as soon as possible and avoid making another trips out in any snowy, icy or wet weather conditions.
To be 100% sure please stop by at one of our Fremont Motor locations in Wyoming or Nebraska. Our factory trained service consultants will make sure to get your vehicle and tires inspected so you can be assured to travel safe under any weather and road condition.
